Art Galleries

The Central Arkansas Library System's (CALS) art program is located in the Arkansas Studies Institute building (ASI) on the Main Library campus in downtown Little Rock's River Market District. The Butler Center's four art galleries, including a retail gallery, feature the work of Arkansas artists and exhibit art related to the state. The exhibition galleries host rotating exhibits including works from the CALS permanent collection. In addition to these galleries, several library locations throughout the CALS system host various exhibits throughout the year. More »

Butler Center Collections

In addition to providing access to hundreds of thousands of books, CDs, and DVDs, the Central Arkansas Library System and the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies manage special collections such as Arkansas genealogy records, host art exhibitions, operate art galleries featuring local artists, host the annual Arkansas Literary Festival, and operate River Market Books & Gifts and Bookends Café. Arkansas Literary Festival

The Central Arkansas Library System’s Main Library campus and many other Little Rock venues are the sites for a stimulating mix of sessions, panels, special events, performances, workshops, presentations, opportunities to meet authors, book sales, and book signings. Held annually in April, the Literary Festival is free and open to the public. More »

Arkansas Sounds Concert Series

Arkansas Sounds is a project of the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies, a department of the Central Arkansas Library System. Focused on Arkansas music and musicians both past and present, Arkansas Sounds presents concerts, workshops, and other events to showcase Arkansas’s musical culture. More »

Testimony to Tolerance

The Testimony to Tolerance Initiative is a program established in 2007 by the USC Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education nd the Central Arkansas Library System, with funding from the Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, L'Oreal USA, Inc., and the Jewish Federation of Arkansas. The initiative serves Little Rock and the surrounding communities in Central Arkansas. More »
