Remodeled McMath Library Reopens

About the Library

Sidney S. McMath Library offers patrons thousands of books and audio/visual items. The 10,700 square-feet facility features a children's area, public meeting rooms and wireless Internet access. The library's 10-acre site features a boardwalk from John Barrow Road, a walking path, an amphitheater, and a koi pond with an observation pier.

People of the Library

Sid McMath was elected Governor of Arkansas in 1948. He entered office January 11, 1949 as the nation's youngest governor. He was reelected in 1950. His administration built the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, which was financed with a two-cent tax on cigarettes.

Tax Assistance Available at CALS

Tax Assistance Available at CALS

Volunteers from Volunteers In Tax Assistance (VITA) / Central Arkansas Development Council (CADC) will be at Dee Brown Library, as well as other locations in and around Little Rock, through April 15 to help qualified patrons file their tax returns. Consultation sessions will be available on a first come, first served basis to low and moderate income families. No registration is required at CALS branches.

Patrons interested in tax assistance from VITA should bring the following:

  • Picture ID for you and your spouse
  • Social Security card for you and anyone you’re claiming
  • Dates of birth for you and anyone you’re claiming
  • W-2s from all jobs held in 2014
  • Last year’s return and any other tax documents
  • ITINs
  • Form 1099-G if you received unemployment
  • Form 1099-INT if you received interest from a bank account
  • Forms 1095-A, B or C (Affordable Health Care Statement)
  • Health Insurance Card
  • Documentation of any child care expenses (Child care agency id or provider’s Social Security number)
  • If you are doing a direct deposit, bring a voided check
  • If you are filing with your spouse, please bring your spouse

VITA volunteers will be available at the following days and times:
