Text Message Notification System for the Library Catalog

Text Message Notification System for the Library Catalog

Find out when your reserved books are available with a text message from the Central Arkansas Library System (CALS). SMS (Short Message Service) Alerts gives patrons the option to receive library alerts on their mobile device. The messages will let patrons know requested materials are waiting at the library.

SMS Alerts will be sent in addition to the current CALS notifications by email, telephone, or USPS. SMS Alerts will be sent frequently during the day so they will be delivered in a timely fashion,at times within the hour of an item's availability. The message will read: "An item you have placed on hold is now available at the library. To avoid a $2 charge, please check out the item within 7 days."

To sign up for SMS Alerts, patrons should log into their account and select "Modify Your Info", read the terms and conditions, and complete the Mobile Settings information, including checking the Opt In box.

Opt Out

Patrons may choose to opt out at any point and change their method of receiving information. To opt out from the CALS SMS Alerts, send a text message with the word STOP, STOP ALL, END, QUIT, CANCEL or UNSUBSCRIBE to 82453 or 35143 from the patron's mobile phone, login to the patron record and update the preferences.

Additional Help

For help with CALS SMS Alert text message service, email techsupport@cals.org. Patrons may also send a text message from the mobile device with the word HELP to 82453 or 35143. CALS SMS Alerts is a monthly subscription service, but CALS will only send SMS alerts whenever material is available for pick up. The number of messages received is based on account settings. Although CALS does not charge for this service, standard message charges apply.
