Public Hearing to Discuss Expanding Services at Sanders Library in Sherwood
The Central Arkansas Library System will host a public meeting on Tuesday, January 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Sanders Library, 31 Shelby Drive, in Sherwood, to discuss the possibility of a new library.
The Amy Sanders Library opened to serve Sherwood residents in 1989. During 1993-2008, Sherwood's population increased 23%. During that time, attendance at the Sanders Library increased 190% and circulation increased 64%. The 9,800-square foot facility serves over 17,000 card holders and the surrounding community, and is smaller than both the Maumelle Library and the new Jacksonville Library. In 2008, over 128,000 patrons checked out more than 144,000 items, attendance increased 32%, and circulation increased 14%. The City of Sherwood owns the building which currently houses the library.
The Sanders Library offers many programs, with an especially strong line up of children's events. Sherwood's Master Gardeners have provided landscaping for the grounds.
