Expanded Library Services to be Subject of Public Meeting
The Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) will host a public meeting to discuss expanding library services on Wednesday, March 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the Thompson Library, located at 38 Rahling Circle. CALS may ask voters to allow the library to refinance bonds that were approved by voters in 2003 and issued in 2004.
If the proposal is approved, the library will net $17,000,000. Of these new funds, $4,000,000 would be used to purchase books, audiobooks, eBooks, Internet databases, and computers; $10,000,000 to add manuscript storage space and a 350-seat auditorium on the Main Library campus in the River Market District; $2,000,000 to expand the McMath Library on John Barrow Road by approximately 3,000 sq. feet; and $1,000,000 to purchase land for a future library in west Little Rock. Under the proposal the actual millage rate would be lowered by .1 mill and the tax would be collected for an additional seven years.
